Ailín is an Irish name of Celtic origin and a cognate of the name Alan. The name Alan has been brought to England by people from Brittany, in the 11th century, and was then spread spread into Scotland and Ireland. It may be derived from the tribal name of the Alans, an Iranian people who migrated into Europe in the 4th and 5th centuries.
