Why are proteases generally released in inactive form?

Most of the enzymes that are released in the body are first released into its inactive form. Proteases are released in its inactive form because if it is released in active form, without the presence of any food, they will start reacting with our own body cells which can prove devastating for the body. So they are released inactively and are activated only in presence of a substrate.
